WRUP: Bionic safety edition

If you're planning on playing a lot of Bionic Commando Rearmed this weekend -- a course of action we heartily condone -- remember to be safe. Please, please resist the urge to craft your own grappling apparatus for use in real life. We realize it would probably shave a lot of time off of your commute, but trust us when we say it's not worth the risk. The last time we attempted to make a grappling gun, it didn't end well (that's not a joke, I was 12 at the time). So, take it easy out there bionic soldiers.

With that out of the way, what will you be playing this weekend?

WRUP: Get Braid edition

Braid is a wonderful game. We can't stop saying it, and we won't stop saying it either. Everyone should at least try the game. It's pretty, it has beautiful music, and the gameplay is clever and fresh. Okay, that's all. End of rant (for now). There are plenty of other games to play, after all, many of them good ones. Just what will you be playing this weekend, hmmm?

WRUP: Geometrical crack edition

Getting both Soul Calibur IV and Geometry Wars 2 this week seems something like an embarrassment of riches. Truth be told, we have been nearly incapable of pulling ourselves away from Geometry Wars 2. It has quite honestly impacted our work-flow around here. It is the sole reason why this edition of WRUP has arrived so late. Comparing an addicting game to crack is an overused metaphor to be sure, but we find ourselves with a single metaphor that's more apt. Geomery Wars 2 is a helluva drug.

What will your drug of choice be this weekend?

WRUP: Brain dead edition

As we mentioned in the Week in Review, things are a little hectic at Fanboy Towers these days. It's E3 time you see, so we are busy, like bih-zee. Scheduling time with games, interviews, and trying to make sure we have enough time to do less important things like, say, eating: it's enough to addle the brain. What will we be playing this weekend? Dustin and Richard (hey, that's me!) will be playing the packing and flying to LA game. Terrence and Xav? They'll be playing the prepare for a metric ton of press releases and assets game.

Don't worry if you feel left out, because you can play along at home next week. In the meantime, we must ask, what will you be playing this weekend?

WRUP: Fireworks edition!

As you may have heard, it's the fourth of July. At this time we're thankful that this isn't some sort of futuristic audio blog, because chances are that a good number of our readers are now deaf from all the (possibly illegal) fireworks they've been setting off. Yes, Independence Day is a good thing, but Independence Day on a Friday? Now that's a recipe for legends. So go, fanboys and fangirls! Gather up the life stories that you will one day tell your children and grandchildren, the stories of how you spent the 4th of July weekend in 2008. Allow us to borrow from Apu Nahasapeemapetilon and suggest that you "Celebrate the independence of your nation by blowing up a small part of it."

Speaking of how to spend the weekend, we are reminded that video games will likely be a part of everyone's glorious adventures over the next three days. We also realize that not all of our readers will be celebrating this particularly American holiday, but we'll be sure to set some fireworks off for you too, okay?

Please, share with us your gaming (or non-gaming plans) for this weekend.

WRUP: All Alone edition

Have you ever played a game knowing full well that it's not all that great? We're not talking about just to grind achievements either. You may have heard that Alone in the Dark isn't exactly setting the world on fire with critics, which is ironic given how many things you can set on fire in the game. This weekend (assuming it shows up from GameFly) we'll be plunging into Alone in the Dark. Here's hoping it's greater than the sum of its parts. How about you, fanboys? What will you be playing this weekend?

WRUP: It's summer edition

With no games coming out this week and a somewhat random smattering the week before, it seems that summer -- and the accompanying drought of games -- may finally be here. Checking our calendar ... yep, it's officially summer today (at 11:59pm anyway). Imagine that. Still, the drought shouldn't last too long, as we are getting the (hopefully good) Alone in the Dark next week (and the Gears of War re-release, if you still don't have it). It's not like we don't need time to catch up anyway. With this in mind, we ask: what will you be playing this weekend.

WRUP: sudden variety edition

Wow, we went from a trickle of new releases to a veritable explosion of new, decent games. From Ninja Gaiden II to Roogoo to the Civilization Revolution demo (seriously, try it), there's something for everyone it seems. Hell, there's even a fishing game available. So many choices, so little time. The question to you is which choice will you make or, more precisely, what will you be playing this weekend?

WRUP: Ninja glory edition

Let's take a moment to be personal. We've made no secret of the fact that we're Ninja Gaiden fanboys (this blogger in particular), so when we ask you what you will be playing this weekend, we hope your answer is Ninja Gaiden II. Five levels into the game thus far, it hasn't disappointed. We totally understand if Ninja Gaiden isn't your thing (we hear GRID is supposed to be pretty good), but action fans really should look into it.

So, what will you be playing this weekend?

WRUP: Ninja countdown edition

Action fans may have noticed a certain tingling over the last few days, a disturbance in the Force, if you will. While it's possible that such tingling is the result of possible health problem, we're more than willing to bet that you're just sensing the imminent arrival of Ninja Gaiden II next Tuesday. Who knows, maybe you even have a Japanese friend who was nice enough to let you play the demo. If you can, we suggest that it should be what you play this weekend. Still, it's WRUP, so we have to ask: what will you be playing this weekend.

WRUP: Go outside edition

We are absolutely not the preachy type. It's not like we think video games are bad for you or anything. Far from it really. In fact, we wouldn't even have jobs if it weren't for video games, so we've proven, at the very least, that games are good for you (well, for us anyway). Still, too much of anything isn't healthy. With spring in bloom and the blazing hot days of summer still in the distance, why not go outside and enjoy the wonders of nature. Marvel at every object in sight, all realistically rendered in real definition. Think of it like the ultimate sandbox game (no extra lives though, sorry).

Now that you've done that, it's time for us to ask that time-honored question: what will you be playing this weekend?

WRUP: dreams of the future edition

We were positively inundated with gaming news this week, largely in thanks to Microsoft's Spring Showcase. We received new info about nearly all of Microsoft's upcoming game lineup, including Gears of War 2, Ninja Gaiden II, Fable 2, Banjo Kazooie, and more. Basically, we got to look at games we won't be able to play for months (with the exception of Ninja Gaiden II ... drool). Don't get us wrong, we're happy to get the info, but we're angry that we have to wait. So, we're just going to sulk over in the corner. As for the everyone else, what will you be playing this weekend?

WRUP: expanding boundaries edition

Okay, we know that most everyone is still playing Grand Theft Auto IV. That's fine. We can accept that. However, with summer fast approaching, we find ourselves reflecting on games past. Given the usually thin trickle of releases during the summer months, it's a good time to take some older (and cheaper) games for a spin. For instance, we just wrapped up the single-player campaign in Marathon: Durandal for XBLA. The upcoming DLC got us all excited, what can we say? Of course, we don't speak for everyone, so we must ask again: what will you be playing this weekend?

WRUP: three guesses edition

You know, this week it might be more productive if only the those who aren't playing Grand Theft Auto IV post what they're playing. Honestly, if our friends list is any indication, there aren't many of you out there. Yes, even Dustin, our resident Halo 3 fanboy, has been sucked into the sweet embrace of GTAIV. Whatever the case, as usual, we are required to ask: what will you be playing this weekend? Forget what we said about only commenting if you're not playing GTAIV, though. Go ahead and proclaim it, loud and proud.

WRUP: IV days to go edition

This is it, folks. It's the last stop, the final hurdle before the launch of Grand Theft Auto IV. All we have to do is make it through the weekend and Monday (and Tuesday morning if you don't have the stomach for midnight launches), and we can all get our grubby little meat hooks on Rockstar's latest. That's three days to fill with something, anything that will pass the time. What will it be for you?
